About Me
I live in Wailuku, Maui (no ka oi). I moved here in 1987. I work as a Network Admin/Website Coordinator/Admin. Assistant for Hope Chapel Maui (Kihei) www.hcmaui.com. I am married to JB who moved to Maui from Colorado in 1985. We have two kids.
Here on Maui, sometimes I see fellow Govs Espie, Nalani (Kathy), Sherry and Maurice. When i visit Oahu, I no see anybody because you guys get too much people over there already. Oh actually, I did see Roxanne Sanico last summer. I can hardly make my way around town anymore because everything is so different. I think I'll use Verizon's GPS next trip.
My parents moved from Kalihi to Waianae in 1985 so I'm pretty much on that side when I visit Oahu. My sister, Camille, lives in Maili (actually Nanakuli zip code but she prefers to say she lives in Maili). I guess she's trying to get away from the tita-e rep, but she's from Kalihi so no can.
I like living in Wailuku because it reminds me of Kalihi. We're up against the mountain, no more tourists like Kihei & Lahaina. We have a prison here, homeless shelter, public housing. Actually Happy Valley in Wailuku is really, really like Kalihi Valley. Except no fires like used to have in Kalihi.
Sometimes when I go to Oahu, my and my kids do a picnic on the field between Dole & Kaewai Schools. Summer time only. That wouldn't work during school time. I like the familiar scent of the grass, the view of the mountains, the sounds I used to hear. It's quite cool. If you're from Kalihi and live off-island, you should try it. And pick up a plate lunch from Gulick's.
Kam IV Homes is looking good these days - upgrades! Look like fancy townhouse now.
I was so sad when they tore down Kenny's Burgerhouse and built McDonalds. No more teri burgers with slush float. I used to work there my senior year. I remember when I was late one time, I had the tedious task of brushing the tile grout with a toothbrush. I don't think I was late again. And there was this lady who was a cashier but really ran the place. Her name was Rose. She had a different way of counting change. I forget what it was now.
I remember working at Dole Cannery in the summers during high school. Loved making money, but I can't really enjoy pineapple anymore. So funny, I went to a wedding last week and my friend, Lita, is from Lanai. She worked in the fields. She and I were the only ones not eating our pineapple. We had to laugh.
