Allow Pop-Ups

The Homegrown Hawaii Instant Messenger uses pop-ups to allow members to chat with each other live.  The following help file will walk you through the process of allowing pop-ups for HomegrownHawaii.com

Pop-Up Blocker Defined
A pop-up blocker refers to any software or application that disables any pop-up, pop-over or pop-under window that you would see while using a Web browser. Some pop-up blockers may try to close all pop-up windows, some may remove all advertising from a publisher's Web site, and still others may help you choose which pop-up windows you want to be closed with block list feature.

Unfortunately pop-up blockers come in many shapes and sizes, we will help you with the most common pop-up blockers.  In most cases the pop-up blocking software will warn you that it has just blocked a pop up.  Clicking on the warning will give you some easy options to disable blocking.

Choose your pop-up blocker:

Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox
Google Toolbar
Yahoo Toolbar

Internet Explorer

1) Open Internet Explorer.
2) Click on Tools --> Internet Options.
3) Click on the Privacy tab.

4) Click on Settings.
5) In the "Address of Website to Allow" text box enter homegrownhawaii.com

6) Click on Add then click on Close.

Mozilla Firefox

1) Open Firefox
2) Click on Tools --> Options...
3) Click on the Content Tab

4) Click on Allowed Sites
5) In the "Address of web site" text box enter homegrownhawaii.com

6) Click on Allow then click on Close.

Google Toolbar

The Google Popup Blocker can be told to remember these sites so pop-up windows are allowed to launch. This information is stored on your computer in what's known as a "whitelist" (as opposed to a "blacklist"). The Popup Blocker uses the whitelist to turn itself off when you visit sites whose popups you would like to see.

To add a site to your whitelist, visit the site and press the Popup Blocker button. The button text will change to read "Popups okay," indicating that the Popup Blocker is disabled on the site in question.

If you would like to remove a site from your whitelist, visit that site and click the Popup Blocker button. The button text will change to display the number of ads you've blocked. The changed text indicates that the site has been removed from your whitelist, and the Popup Blocker will resume activity on that site.

Please note that it is not possible to view or manually edit the whitelist. You can only add and remove sites from this list by toggling the Popup Blocker button on and off.

If the Popup Blocker is preventing a new window from opening, you can always let a new window open from a "blocked" site by holding down the Ctrl key while you click on a link.

Finally, if you'd like to disable the Popup Blocker completely, please follow the instructions below:

For the Google Toolbar 4.0:
1. Click the "Settings" button on your Toolbar and choose "Options."
2. Select the "More" tab.
3. Un-check the box next to "Popup Blocker."
4. Click "OK."

Yahoo Toolbar

If Pop-Up Blocker is blocking something you want to see, there are three different ways you can override the Yahoo! Pop-Up Blocker built into Yahoo! Toolbar for Internet Explorer:

Option 1: Add the source of the pop-up window to your Allowed List by doing the following:

  1. Click the Pop-Up Blocker menu.
  2. Select "Always Allow Pop-Ups From".
  3. Select the site from the "Sources of Recently Blocked Pop-Ups" list.
  4. Click "Allow".

This allows all pop-ups from this web site to appear without further action.

Option 2: Press and hold the CTRL key while clicking a link. This overrides Pop-Up Blocker for just that one click and allows any pop-up windows resulting from the click to appear. You have to hold down the CTRL key before clicking the link every time you click a link that's currently being blocked.

Option 3: Turn off Pop-Up Blocker by clicking the Pop-Up Blocker menu and unchecking "Enable Pop-Up Blocker". This allows all pop-up windows to appear. If you've done this and the pop-up is still being blocked, it's not being blocked by Pop-up Blocker. Check the settings on the other pop-up blockers installed on your system. You can turn the Pop-Up Blocker back on by selecting "Enable Pop-Up Blocker" again so that it has a checkmark.

Other Programs

Note: If you've tried the three methods listed above and the pop-up you want is still being blocked, the window is NOT being blocked by Yahoo! Pop-up Blocker. It's being blocked by some other pop-up blocker, such as another toolbar you've installed, the blocker built into Windows XP service pack 2, or some other program such as an Internet security program or firewall. Due to the wide variety of programs that may be blocking the pop-up it's impossible to list them all here. Please look for some indication on your system when the window is blocked, such as an icon or sound, to determine what's blocking the window from appearing. Check the "View Toolbars" menu in Internet Explorer to make sure all your installed toolbars are present so you see any indicators they may be presenting. Then check all your applications listed in the "Programs" menu of the "Start" button to see if any of them include a pop-up blocker that may be blocking your window from appearing.
