About Me
My name is Edward K. Chock; I was born and raised in Wailuku, Maui. I’m a (byproduct) of Baldwin High School class ‘62 a total screw-up in my teenage years, if I may say. I just barely made it out of high school just being kolohe, pakakee head among other things. I did not have the foggiest idea what I wanted to do with my life; nada, zilch but just goof off. After you get through reading this, you'll be scratching your head and wondering how in the hell did I get this far in life and lasted so long in one company, especially in this particular line of work in the first place? Let me tell you just by sheer luck, self motivation and burning the midnight oil. I was determined to be somebody no matter what others thought of me! All that matters is that I gave it my all and provided for my wife and children. I did not let them down. Everything I've done from the day I arrived in Washington, D.C. to the present, have been self taught with a lot of coaching from co-workers (mentors). I took every in-house class of all types, dealing with configuration management, software, hardware, operations and networking and others to mumerous to list that were offered to me by my past and current employer. I will never see this kind of opportunity to happen again in my life time, especially in this line of work. Go figure that one out!
I left the islands in ‘64 and moved to the mainland and gradually worked my way over to the east coast and finally ended up in Washington, D.C. This is where I started my career in the computer field and enjoyed every minute of it. This is also where I met my wife back in ’65, after dating for two years we were married and still together after all those years, at times it was rough but we manage to hang in there. We have two grown children; Angela (Leilani) and Christopher at the present they still live at home and they have no desire of leaving the nest. My wife and I are very fortunate to have our children home with us. Our daughter received her BS and MS degrees in Information Technology with a major in Software Engineering from UMUC. She has shadowed my every steps and picked my brain clean, ever since she enrolled at UMUC her ability to grasp every tiny bits and pieces of information and use it to her advantage is awesome. That is every parents greatest dream would be proud of. Our son is working at the Library of Congress and is into music, he needs to find his own niche in life; I will not force him to follow my footsteps. My kids are my pride and joy and I will do anything for them. All four of us have our own vehicles so we do our own thing. My wife worked at the D.C. police department as a Police Dispatcher until she was injured on the job and was forced to retire for her injuries. I was drafted into the Army in ‘67 and spent one tour of duty in Dak To, Vietnam.
I'm currently employed at BAESYSTEMS Inc. previously known as Vitro Corporation; since July of 1969. We are located in Rockville, Maryland. I'm just one of many kanaka bruddas and sistas up here in the mainland trying to scratch out a decent living and survive.... Mahalo
